Mizoram Solar Policy and it's Solar Highlights

Mizoram, literally translated to "land of hill people", is a state in the northeastern part of India. The capital city of the state is Aizwal. It shares the borders with countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar. Before being recognised as a state, Mizoram was actually a Union Territory. The total commissioned power of Mizoram currently when it comes to solar energy is .10MW. However, in the last financial year, 2016/17 0MW was added to the existing capacity. Mizoram announced its solar policy in 2015 in an attempt to push solar. It has been estimated that the solar potential of the state is 9.09GWp. Mizoram has set a target of 80MW to be achieved as a part of the National Solar Mission of 2022.It has been made mandatory of the state government buildings including institutes to install rooftop solar. Central Government offices in the state are also required to install solar as an attempt to push rooftop solar. Net metering policy has been put in place as well, so that any consumer who wants to go solar can feed back extra power they generate to the grid and get compensated for that. Zoram Electricity Development Agency (ZEDA) has also promoted the use of solar and provided several solar lamps, heaters etc to several villages in the state.
